How to Make Friends as a Man

Guys hanging out
Why Is It So Hard to Make Friends as a Guy?
Let’s be real: making friends as a grown man can be awkward. We’re busy, work, partners, kids, or life, and the few times we hang out with other guys, it’s usually because of a birthday party, work event, our wives or kids. Rarely we planned it ourselves.
And let’s face it—asking another guy to hang out?
Weirdly vulnerable.
What do you even say? “Hey, man, wanna chill… and maybe talk about life?” It feels like breaking some unwritten “guy code.” So, we often don’t ask or try to make a new friend.
Remember When It Was Easier?
Think back to when you were younger. Friendships just happened—sports, college roommates, beer pong nights in someone’s garage. But let’s be honest: most of those friendships were about what you did, not who you were.
Then life changes. You grow up, and suddenly, those surface-level connections don’t cut it. You want more depth. Friends you can talk to about real stuff—your goals, and your struggles.
What If You Could Have Both?
Here’s the thing: it doesn’t have to be all serious or all surface. You can have the laughs and the depth: the game nights and the real conversations. But someone’s gotta go first.
Yeah, it feels awkward to be the one who says, “Hey, let’s hang out.” But if no one goes first or takes a risk, nothing changes.
Just Go For It
Next time you think about calling that friend or meeting a guy you want to become friends with, don’t overthink it.
Tell him or Text him. Keep it simple: “You seem like a (insert word here like cool/smart/fun/interesting) guy. I think we’d be friends. You down to grab a coffee, beer
It’s easy, start small, see where it goes.
Because the truth is, most guys want more guy friends. They’re just waiting for someone else to say it first. So why not let that be you?
Mike Tyson & Jake Paul gave me a good reason to get a new group of guys together. Was cool to have 8 guys come over, most meeting for the first time, from different walks of life, family situations and careers, and see them come together so easirlly. And I can honestly say, the more guy friends I have the better my life is.
